Mildred Pierce

Mildred Pierce
Mildred Pierce is like any mother who wants the best for her children, especially daughter, Veda. Even as her marriage disintegrates around her, she loses her youngest daughter, and Veda becomes more manipulative, Mildred is determined to give her oldest daughter the world. However, the harder she works, Mildred slowly realizes the sacrifices she makes will never be enough to satisfy the daughter who only thinks of herself. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Mildred Pierce”.

· Mildred is talking to Wally about opening up her own restaurant. In the front view of Mildred, she’s holding the proposal papers on the sides with both hands. It cuts to a wider view when Wally starts to talk and Mildred’s left hand is under the papers.

· Mildred and Monte are at the beach house. In the wider view of the two when Mildred says, “I like your ocean”, Monte is holding one glass in his left hand while his right hand is on top of the seltzer bottle. The scene cuts to a close-up of Monte when he says, “I wouldn’t say that”, and both hands are down, each holding a glass.

· Mildred has Wally working with the potatoes in the restaurant kitchen. Just as Ida comes in with the orchids, Wally sets down the fry baskets. It cuts to a closer view as Wally says, “Orchids, say what is this…”, and he still has the baskets up, in each hand. The scene cut bac to the original view when Mildred asks Wally to put the orchids in the ice box and the baskets are down once again.

· Mildred arrives back home from her trip to Mexico and is talking to Ida. In the front view of Ida (rear, right side view of Mildred), when she comments about men, both of her arms and hands are down, near the desk she’s sitting on. It cuts to a wider view when Mildred says, “you’ve never been married”, and Ida’s right hand is holding a cigarette near her face.

“Mildred Pierce” (1945) stars Joan Crawford, Jack Carson, Zachary Scott, Eve Arden, Ann Blyth, and Bruce Bennett. It runs 111 minutes and has a “Passed” rating.
